The revolutionary TCU device (thermostatic control unit) is the brainchild of EPIC’s Erik Penz and is culmination to over 2 ½ years of extensive development within the company’s Georgia ‘Lakeside Laboratories’. The EPIC TCU gallantly steps in and delivers in areas where all other thermostats have failed in the past. Its excellent performance characteristics combined with precision machining and superb aesthetics are sure to make the EPIC TCU one of the best values in karting.
“We worked long and hard, and it took some years to develop the performance we wanted” states Erik Penz, EPIC’s principal owner and company founder. “In the beginning, our objective was simply to source something ‘off-the-shelf’ to combine with our radiators for optimum performance. We looked at everything that was available on the market and what we soon discovered was that there was absolutely nothing out there that matched our specification. In fact, the technology for such a low-temperature thermostat didn’t even exist!” Penz continues. “So in a sense, yes, we actually had to re-invent the wheel in this regard. A thermostat –it sounds easy enough, right? –every car on the planet has one after all. But it wasn’t such a straight-forward project as to simply adapt automotive technology to a go-kart. It was quite a tedious and laborious process to develop this component but in the end I think it was worth it because the market really needs it.”
Professionally engineered to be a true, four-season thermostat, the EPIC TCU installs in minutes to virtually any water-cooled kart. Some of the product features include:
- rapid engine warm-up
- stable and consistent (120 degree F) coolant temps
- consistent flow due to variable bypass design
- zero pressure drop or system cavitation
The EPIC TCU is sold as a kit and includes everything necessary to retrofit to a kart’s existing cooling system. Available online at www.epicincorporated.com, the TCU kits sell for US$150 and are shipped direct to your door.
